Collectie: Men's Echoic Jacket
Embarking on a research and development project to blend traditional textiles with 21st century fabric technologies, we took inspiration from the striking mountains and surf of Spain’s Oyambre coast – and the imposing Munros and moors of the Scottish highlands – whilst gathering small quantities of premier materials from three continents.
Returning to the artisanal district of north London, we rolled up our sleeves with Cat, our master pattern cutter. A holistic designer and activist known for sharing her technical skills with community members, and giving textiles consigned to the scrap heap a second life, Cat revelled in the opportunity to fuse the Echoic’s heritage cloths and contemporary fabrics in original ways.
The result of our two year quest? A limited edition jacket for all seasons, and one that – in its own way – gives back to nature more than it takes.
This is the first time that Malden Mills’ innovative Polartec fleece, spun from discarded plastic bottles, has been married with British woollen tweed (woven for us by Mallalieus of Delph, who will soon be celebrating 160 years of production).
Classic waxed cotton by Millerain (who’ve been in operation for a mere 140 years!) reinforces the Echoic’s high-wear areas to further extend the jacket’s useful life: less landfill, more landscape.
The Echoic represents everything we have learnt about ecology, community, sustainability – and the threads that bind them. We hope you enjoy wearing your Echoic as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it.
Fun fact: To date, Malden Mills has reprocessed more than a billion plastic bottles into Polartec fabrics. That’s enough fleece to make a jacket for every resident of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
